February 6th and 7th vs. UCONN

Air Force entered the weekend one point behind conference leader RIT. Air Force comes in at 17-7-2 overall, 14-4-2 AHA. Connecticut's record is 6-20-1, 5-13-1 AHA.

February 6:

Good news before opening faceoff, RIT lost, so a win would give Air Force the AHA lead. Sean Bertsch netted the first goal early in the first. The Falcons then broke an 0 for 27 slump on the powerplay on a rebound that Matt Fairchild buried in the back of the net. The Falcons got sloppy in the second, and took three successive penalties. The three were killed, but during the lull after the kill, the traffic in front of Volkening proved to much, and on their fourth point blank attempt, Matt Pedemonti put UCONN on the board. Greg Flynn hit a slap shot from the point midway through the third, it hit Fairchild in the chest, and he slid it five-hole for the Falcons second powerplay goal. The Huskies began pressing and scored the final goal of the game when Sean Erickson fired a slap shot past Volks. The game ended 3-2 and Air Force retook the AHA lead. Andrew Volkening made 32 saves in the win.

February 7:

A crowd of 3,206 (in a 2,750 seat arena) extended the sell-out streak to six games. It was the ninth sell-out of the season, which passed the record set by the men's basketball team in 2006-2007. Jacques Lamoureux took center stage. On the powerplay, he took a shot from the left circle that hit the far post and bounced in. Less than two minutes later the Huskies netted a powerplay goal of their own, tieing the game at one. Lamoureux broke the tie early in the third with a breakaway from the blue line. He faked backhand, shot forehand, and gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead. Jaques finished his hat trick with an empty netter, he selected himself a new hat from those thrown. Sean Bertsch also had an empty net goal. The final score was 4-1. RIT also won, leaving Air Force with a one point lead in the AHA. Air Force outshot UCONN 36-20.
